South African experiences meant great Journalism Internship
By Pascal Allen
Being a journalism student has often brought me a sense of pride in my work. I love being able to tell a story and have people read about my views and what I produce. It’s a great feeling. One of the best things I have ever done was an online internship with journalism about the country I am from of South Africa. Here I got to write about all different tourism experiences for International readers to find out about and then get an insight into my country. This is exactly what I spoke about before and the thrill it brings me to have people read my work.
Getting paid to write about your own country is actually a great feeling. As I have been lucky enough in my time to travel all over South Africa I know many different places and suggestions for the readers. Receiving feedback from these readers too is a great feeling as I then know from a personal level that my writing really is making a difference. And many people would often comment on how it was my article that made them want to go to the specific place they visited and without my recommendation they never would’ve imagined going there at all. These sorts of comments would always bring a broad smile to my face!
Give yourself the chance to do an internship if you are a journalism student as it really isn’t as time consuming as you may think. I have a full time study load at University yet I can still give myself the time to write articles and stories for the online places and then really give myself a chance to get my writing read. Being paid for this too is a great feeling and the experience it will bring is also the best feeling at the end of the day. Look around for all potential opportunities and you too could be having a blast doing a journalism internship.
